Getting Started

How do I scan an ingredient label?

Scanning is simple:

  • Open NoJunk and tap the "Scan Product" button
  • Point your camera at the ingredient list on the product packaging
  • Hold your device steady and ensure the text is clearly visible
  • The app will automatically detect and analyze the ingredients
  • View your instant health score and ingredient breakdown

What do the color codes mean?

NoJunk uses a simple color-coding system to help you quickly understand ingredient safety:

Green: Safe ingredients with no known health concerns
Orange: Caution - may have health concerns for some people
Red: Avoid - ingredients with known health risks

How is the health score calculated?

The health score is based on the number and severity of concerning ingredients found in the product. Products with more harmful additives, preservatives, and artificial ingredients receive lower scores, while products with natural, recognizable ingredients score higher.

Troubleshooting

Why isn't my scan working?

If you're having trouble scanning, try these solutions:

  • Lighting: Ensure you're in a well-lit area. Natural light works best.
  • Focus: Hold your device steady and make sure the text is in focus
  • Distance: Position your camera 6-12 inches from the label
  • Angle: Hold your device parallel to the label to avoid glare
  • Text clarity: Make sure the ingredient list is clearly printed and not damaged

The app doesn't recognize some ingredients. Why?

Our ingredient database covers the most common food additives, preservatives, and chemicals. If an ingredient isn't recognized, it may be:

  • A natural ingredient (like "flour" or "water")
  • A regional ingredient not yet in our database
  • Misread by the OCR scanner due to poor image quality

We're continuously updating our database. If you encounter unrecognized ingredients frequently, please let us know!

Can I scan products in different languages?

Currently, NoJunk works best with ingredient labels in English. Support for additional languages is planned for future updates.

Privacy & Data

Is my data private?

Absolutely! NoJunk is designed with privacy at its core. All scanning and processing happens locally on your device. We don't collect, store, or transmit any of your data to our servers. Your scan history stays on your device and is never shared with anyone.

Can I delete my scan history?

Yes! You have full control over your scan history. You can:

  • Delete individual scans by swiping left on any item in your history
  • Clear all history from the Settings menu
  • Delete the app entirely to remove all data

Does NoJunk require an internet connection?

No! NoJunk works completely offline. All ingredient data is stored locally on your device, so you can scan products anywhere, even without an internet connection.

Features & Usage

How do I compare products?

After scanning multiple products, go to your History tab. Tap "Compare" and select two products to view them side-by-side with their health scores and ingredient breakdowns.

Can I save my favorite products?

Your scan history automatically saves all products you've scanned. You can easily refer back to previous scans to make informed purchasing decisions.

Is there a subscription fee?

No! NoJunk is a one-time purchase with no subscriptions, no hidden fees, and no in-app purchases. Pay once, use forever.
